Of course, you're absolutely right. Don't really see the BCS scandal ranking up there in importance with health care, the war on terrorism or the ballooning deficit. But, hey, maybe they're (Dems and Repubs) just trying to find a common enemy they can attack and get the 'people' to rally behind them.
